At my 34-week appointment on Monday, my doctor asked me to "take it easy" the next few weeks. Apparently, my body is doing a few things to sort of "warm-up" for labor and he doesn't want that to come too soon, if we can help it. I'm not too concerned, because a baby born at 34 weeks would still do well, just need an extra day or two in the hospital. (From what I've read, anyway). So I've cut back on walking in the mornings with my friend Nikki and her son Noah...which didn't take up that much time, really. But this, combined with the fact that the majority of my girlfriends in the area are back at school this week, has given me lots of extra time to think of things I still need to do before James arrives! I'm not feeling anxious or nervous--I just want to be prepared. And the suggestion of "taking it easy" has allowed me to think it might be sooner than I think! So here's my To-Do List. I sometimes can hardly function without a To-Do List. It's rather motivating to me, actually!
1. Borrow mom's amazing Dyson to vacuum the house.
2. Pack our hospital bag and make a list of last-minute things to toss into the suitcase. (his diaper bag is already packed...with so many options for 'ride-home' outfits, it's ridiculous)
3. Buy a stopwatch. Mark wants a whistle, too, for his "coach" position he'll assume during labor, but I'm not too keen on that. And he was joking...right?
4. Order wedding pictures. I know, I know. It's been a year and a half. Better late than never, though.
5. Shop for frames for wedding pictures.
6. Plan a few post-James'-birth meals to freeze. I'm totally copying a friend's blog on this one...but I think it's a great idea and something to do while I'm waiting...
7. Make the meals and some bread to freeze.
8. Hang curtains in James' room.
9. Read the owner's manuals for new baby things we've received and don't know how to operate yet.
10. Clean out my car (there are binoculars in the back seat from a baseball game we went to) and keep plenty of gas in it at all times!
11. Take a hospital tour. We might do this Saturday morning!
12. Pre-register at the hospital. Our appointment is next Tuesday.
Okay, I feel inspired. I'm going to go shop for frames and a stopwatch with my mom now.

Ahh! he's going to be here so soon!!! DO NOT buy Mark a whistle...that would not be a good idea! But I'm excited for you that it's so close that it's time to get everything ready!
Tomorrow is my first day...did I mention that work starts at 7:10 a.m....and that I'm going to die!
Love you tons!
Well Emily-With Gail's help I'm finally figuring out how to write on this adorable blog spot! I love the name and plan to check it often.
We too are so excited for baby James! Can't wait to meet him in person, although looking @ the sonogram - it seems I've already met him! Love_ Mom H.
I'd agree that the whistle might be a truly terrible idea! Would Mark even use it? He's so sweet and gentle! :)
Well you can worry about freezing one less meal. Count on me fixing you something for dinner one night.
Thanks Marie! And he sure was teasing about the whistle. He just thought a stopwatch and whistle went together nicely with the "coach" position. He'd never use the whistle. Now an excel spreadsheet to chart my contractions...that wouldn't surprise me! :)
Your list is great and I was cracking up at the wedding picture comment b/c at about week 30 of pregnancy I finally ordered some wedding pictures and hung a big one in our living room. We did have a few smaller ones around the house and I had a frame for the big one, just never got around to follow through. :)
Let me know if you find any favorite freezer meals - we are not leftover eaters and so I'm trying to figure out what we will enjoy. I am going to experiment with a few recipes.
Ok, I am blogging on your comment page....sorry. :)
I loved your comment about mark possibly making an excel spreadsheet to chart your contractions! Too funny to think about! Love ya--Gail
